One of the biggest inspirations to DJ Spin Doctor and many of other talented DJ’s was J-Dilla an artist who did things on his own terms and with a unique style that has inspired everyone from Kanye West to Pharrell Williams.
Building on the tribute night held for him last year, comes this superb two CD mix package from Spin Doctor, under the title You Know What Love Is: Tribute To J-Dilla. It’s been lovingly crafted with tracks that are either originals of J-Dilla’s or were sampled by him, even taking that blueprint though he has still managed to avoid making it obvious, instead he’s dug deep to come up with some real gems.
As you would expect it features Q-Tip, Common, De La Soul, The Pharcyde and Busta Rhymes, but in and amongst them you get the likes of Minnie Ripperton, Amp Fiddler, Janet Jackson and Rene Cosy. It’s the perfect tribute to a great man and one that i’m sure his legions of fans will appreciate.
Any profits that spin Doctor makes from this album will also be going into the same fundraising pot as the money raised from the tribute night last night and will go towards his family and Lupus UK.
